About me

Media Executive, TV& Film Producer, Writer.

My career has been shaped by a deep commitment to storytelling, a willingness to go where others might not, and a steady belief in the value of bearing witness. I began as a news producer working in conflict zones, trying to make sense of the chaos unfolding around me and share those moments with the world. Over time, my work has moved across formats and continents, always with the same aim: to understand and to share what I find.

I’ve reported from 191 countries, including both the North and South Poles. Along the way, I’ve lived and worked across Africa, Russia, South America, Europe, and the United States. These experiences have helped me see stories not just as headlines, but as deeply human experiences grounded in place and culture.

My television work has taken many forms. Some of the programs I’ve contributed to include Larry King Live, 60 Minutes, COPS, America’s Most Wanted, Deadliest Catch, Hitler’s Escape, Wild Russia, Ultimate Cops, Treehouse Builders, PBS Millennium 2000, Dream House, Air Rescue, Heavy Moves, From Vienna: The New Year’s Celebration, The Zoo, Siberian Cut, Hooligans, Cowboy Contractors, Rome, Africa: The Big Five, Africa Live, BluesNites, and The Travel Show (BBC). I’ve worked with CNN, CBS, PBS, BBC, BBC World Service, NBC Sports, ESPN, Discovery, National Geographic, and Disney.

Much of my time has been spent covering major events that have shaped our world. These include the Soviet-Afghan War, the fall of the Berlin Wall, the Rwandan genocide, the wars in the Balkans, and many others. These were not just stories. They were moments when people’s lives were upended, and I saw it as my job to listen carefully, report honestly, and reflect the complexity of what was happening.

Outside of broadcasting, I’ve also worked on media and communication initiatives for nonprofits and development organizations in more than thirty countries. I’ve partnered with UNDP, USAID, the Ford Foundation, and others on projects focused on conflict resolution, education, and public health. In 2004, I was honored to receive the Clinton Global Initiative Prize for work I did in Nigeria during a period of conflict and reconstruction.

Through all of it, I’ve held to one belief. A well-told story, grounded in truth, respect, and human dignity, has the power to inform, to connect, and sometimes, to change things for the better.

“Lynn Scheid reminds us what journalism is meant to be. Curious, courageous, and grounded in truth. I had the pleasure of working with him on the PBS Live From Vienna concerts and again on the documentary Sailing the Chesapeake. His work takes us where others cannot go and shows us what we might not otherwise see.”
– Walter Cronkite

“Lynn Scheid is a model of journalistic excellence and narrative innovation. During our time together on ’60 Minutes,’ he demonstrated an incredible ability to distill complex stories into compelling television. Lynn doesn’t just report news; he creates narratives that resonate with viewers and stay with them long after the screen fades to black. His global perspective, enhanced by an extraordinary breadth of experience, brings invaluable depth to our storytelling. He is unwaveringly courageous in the face of adversity and possesses the rare talent of leading teams to produce work that not only informs but also transforms. Any newsroom would be marked by distinction and a sense of adventure with Lynn at the helm.”
